With more than three decades of experience, Jay played crucial roles on many major North American and international projects involving billions of dollars in sales, joint operating agreements and acquisitions.Jay’s extensive cultural and commercial insights have been key to the success of the companies he has represented. Jay has acted as Chair of NaturalResources Law at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law, Director of the Canadian Energy Law Foundation and Co-Chair of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) Unconventional Resource Operating Agreement Drafting Committee.

Tony Cioni

Tony Cioni has built an impressive career in energy law, specializing in international exploration and development projects. Listed in Chambers and International Who's Who, Tony has more than two decades of international experience in over 30 countries, with a focus on Asia, Africa and the former Soviet Union.

He has lived or worked in Russia, Kazakhstan and Kuwait. Tony has worked on major upstream oil and gas development projects, with a speciality in high-value integrated gas projects. He is currently the Secretary of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN), and was a co-recipient of the AIPNs 2016 Research Paper Prize for a study on international field security risk issues.  Tony’s language skills in French, Italian and Russian, combined with his international upstream, exploration and oil service experience, make him a dynamic leader in international energy law.

Pat Cunningham

Pat Cunningham is an International Business Development advisor specializing in upstream contract negotiation with an emphasis on the Middle East, North Africa and Latin America. He grew up in Peru as a Spanish speaker and spent ten years living and working in Egypt managing exploration assets and operations in the Gulf of Suez and Western Desert.

Pat was also Talisman Energy’s lead international commercial negotiator for twenty years in charge of Africa and the Middle East. As a respected leader in this field, Pat has published numerous papers on negotiations, political risk, border disputes and sanctions, and has taught the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation. Pat is a Board Member, Canadian Chapter of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN).

Nick Bryanskiy is an energy and regulatory lawyer who focuses on renewable power projects and utility regulation matters in Canada. He is also an expert in sanctions law in the context of international oil and gas projects (Russia, Iran and Cuba).

Nick has a Masters in International Public Law (Leiden, Netherlands) and has over ten years of experience supporting Canadian energy companies as specialized legal counsel on oil and gas and power projects in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Kenya, Nigeria, Oman, Sudan, Libya, Iran, China, Russian Federation, Kazakhstan and other former Soviet Union countries. As a respected international energy lawyer, Nick sits on the board of directors of Russian and Canadian oil and gas companies.

Heather has years of petroleum sector industry experience with a broad background of upstream corporate, commercial and regulatory matters. Her role as off-site general counsel to a number of junior producers placed Heather at the executive boardroom table.

She is an expert in tax-driven international corporate structuring and reorganizations. She also engages with entrepreneurs and emerging companies in cutting edge tech and other nascent industries, fostering the growth of these early ventures to develop flexible business models that maximize development and enable long-term success. She is also a lead legal researcher, teacher and academic in Calgary on regulatory and operational matters with a Masters in Law in these areas.
